Astral Saga: Stars of Strife
There exist, scattered throughout the universe, artifacts of untold power, known as the Crowns. They appear to be actual, physical crowns, but they come with a mantle of power so great, that those who bear them become nigh unto gods.
There are many Crowns; the exact number is unknown.
Each Crown comes with the following:
A Crownbearer can only be slain by a special sort of blade, and only after he has broken one of his two oaths. They do not age, and are immune to all sickness.
- The Crown’s Gift
Each Crown grants the bearer a great power, unique to that Crown.
- The Crafting
All Crownbearers possess the power to shape the Temporal Realm.
- Agents of the Crown
Each Crown grants the bearer the ability to create and control special minions, unique to that Crown.
- Titan of the Crown
Each Crown grants the bearer the ability to summon and command a great Titan, unique to that Crown.
- The Cleansing
Each Crown grants the bearer the ability to cleanse an Ire-tainted being.
- The Gifting
Each Crown grants the bearer the ability to bestow a portion of their powers on people or objects.
- The Crown’s Virtue
Each Crown has ties with a specific Virtue.
- The Crowns’ Vice
Each Crown has ties with a specific Vice.
- The Oaths
Each Crownbearer makes two oaths. The Prime Oath, is shared by all Crownbearers. The Personal Oath, is unique to each individual Crownbearer, and is not related to the Crown they bear.
A Transference of Crowns is not unheard of. They are only Nigh-Immortal. They can still be slain, and the one who defeats the Crown, receives the Crown. Some Crowns have never changed hands, whereas others have changed hands dozens of times.
Crowns in the Al’Karai Galaxy
There are many Crowns in the Al’Karai Galaxy, perhaps more than there are elsewhere. Of those many crowns, however, there were four that rose to dominance among the others. Those four led the fight against the Ire, and commanded great and powerful civilizations.
The Traitor Crown
Of those four great Crowns, there was one who fell to darkness. It was not the Ire that defeated him, but something else; something unknown. Ultimately, though, this one Crown turned on the other three. Bolstered by this unknown power, the Traitor Crown nearly destroyed the others.
The Crowns in Hiding
In order to avoid destruction at the hands of the Traitor Crown, the other Crowns had to go into hiding. For most, they simply had to find some quiet place to hide, and refrain from using their powers, as that would draw the attention of the Traitor Crown. For the three Elder Crowns, even while dormant, their powers would draw the attention of the Traitor Crown. In order for them to remain hidden, they had to splinter their own souls, and scatter them throughout the galaxy.
